Raider Robotics is a dynamic and innovative high school robotics team at Lamar School. Students work throughout the competition season with their mentor teacher/coach, Mrs. Phyllis Skipper to construct and program a robot designed to execute the annual task challenges of F.I.R.S.T. (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a competitive robotics league with local, state, and international competitions. Through F.I.R.S.T., students are able to apply mathematics, science, and engineering design concepts learned in the classroom to find solutions for real world problems. The program also brings the added value of teaching students the unique F.I.R.S.T. philosophy of “gracious professionalism” – a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.
