In a continuing effort to provide our students with the best of fine arts opportunities, we are pleased to offer violin and guitar lessons for our students.
We are very fortunate to have Stephen Gwozdz, resident strings instructor for the Meridian Symphony Association, providing the lessons. In addition, Mr. Gwozdz has taught elementary school music/strings in both Meridian and Columbus. His introductory class is designed to introduce students to the parts of the violin, proper posture and form, the fundamentals of scales, and common cords to transition into simple patterns and songs. Basic elementary music theory, including how to read notes on simple sheet music will be taught as well. Intermediate lessons are available for those who have completed the introductory class.
Introductory guitar classes taught by Jason Gardner are offered to students in grades 1-5. Students will learn the parts of the guitar, proper posture and form, the fundamentals of scales, and common cords to transition into simple patterns and songs. Basic elementary music theory as it applies to the guitar, including the types and names of notes, reading simple sheet music and locating the notes on the guitar will be taught.
Costs vary for each semester, depending on the number of lessons. Minimum class size will be five students, not to exceed twelve, and participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Students will need to provide their own instruments. Classes are held once a week immediately after school.
We are truly excited about providing this service to our students and hope to continue to expand our music and other fine arts offerings. Your support will go a long way to promote further development in this area, so please consider having your child participate.
