On March 2, 2023, Lamar Elementary students from the Raider Review newspaper staff and the Lamar Elementary Student Council read their favorite picture books to the elderly at Aldersgate Retirement Community.
"I think this event was a great way to kick-off Read Across America Day, where schools across the nation are celebrating literacy and the joy of reading," said Lamar Elementary Librarian Sandy Syner. "It was fun to watch how reading can bring two generations together."
Fourth grader Sam Komar said he and his peers were happy to commemorate Read Across America Day this way. "It was just fun to be with my friends and to read to the seniors. I feel like this was the highlight of their day," said Komar.
On campus, Lamar Elementary students enjoyed partner reading across grade levels. March is National Reading Month and Lamar looks forward to continuing to find interactive and engaging ways to celebrate reading.
