Lamar School Hosts FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Tournament Jan. 21

The Robotic Raiders are hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Qualifying Tournament on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Eleven teams from across Mississippi will be competing for trophies in hopes to earn a spot in the state-wide tournament at the University of Mississippi in March.

According to firstinspires.org, The FIRST Tech Challenge is more than just building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.

“It was really fun and exciting to watch last year, and this year’s game promises to offer even more excitement,” said Phyllis Skipper, Raider Robotics mentor and coach.

The competition will be held at Lamar School’s Indoor Practice Facility. Qualifying matches will start at 10:00 a.m. and final rounds will take place in the afternoon. The trophy presentation will take place at approximately 4:00 p.m.
